Building The Village

As a healthcare and industrial family, traditional childcare hours did not always work for us, and missing work was not an option. My husband and I had to get creative with childcare because my daughter missed school frequently due to minor illnesses. In addition, we had limited family support here in Baton Rouge (my parents live in Lafayette, LA).

We wanted to create a community that provided a safe, convenient childcare and healthcare option that:

  • Accommodated industries working extended hours that spanned beyond the traditional 9-5

  • Created access to critical community-based services such as WIC & Kidmed outside of regular 7:30 - 4 clinic hours; and

  • Engaged the community to share unique experiences and resources with our village.

Because of our struggles, The Village Kidz organization was born.

In addition to supporting families, we wanted to create a space that inspired learning and provided leadership development for our children and high school and university students. Therefore, The Village offers many opportunities for internships and apprenticeships through partnerships with many local institutions.  We also provide annual scholarships and grants to support higher education.
